The 2009 growing season was marked by the typical hot Alentejo weather, temperatures reached 39°C end of August. Flowering in middle of May passed without problems and resulted in a regular fruit set. This made the task of yield reduction easier than last year.
Summer was hot, but not with extreme peaks as in 2003. The vegetation until end of July was at a normal stage when a heat wave hit the Alentejo and increased the speed of maturation. Sugar levels raised rapidly and we had to start harvest one week earlier than normal. The heat and the warm wind concentrated the grapes and sugar levels jumped over the limit of 15 % pot. Alcohol.
Grape picking started 18th August and ended 9th September, always under good but hot weather conditions. This year we harvested almost 100 tons.
